The social action arm of the Archdiocese of Cebu in the central Philippines turned over 65 core transitional shelters to homeless families in five villages on Monday, April 10.
“In our times, the work of the Church through Cebu Caritas and Parish Caritas of the parishes is proof of the living God,” said Auxiliary Bishop Ruben Labajo in his homily during the occasion.
The 65 family-beneficiaries are parishioners of the Parroquia de San Isidro Labrador, the youngest parish in the Archdiocese of Cebu.
“We see here sharing and giving. The world is nice when it learns how to share,” said Allan Sesaldo, the mayor of the municipality of Argao, where the shelters are located.
“Project Balay Caritas gives us an opportunity to have a better quality of life and dignity,” he said.
The shelter project dubbed “Balay Caritas” is part of the ongoing emergency response and rehabilitation efforts of the Church for the victims of typhoon Odette.
On February 14, 2023, Cebu Caritas turned over 100 Core Progressive Shelters and 35 Core Transitional Shelters in Boljoon, Cebu.
