Gov’t reports 33 dead from rains, floods due to bad weather

About 1,672 houses were damaged while the amount of damage to infrastructure is placed at PhP206.9 million

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Thursday, January 19, reported that the number of deaths from the effects of bad weather due to a low pressure area, shear line and the northeast monsoon since January 2 has climbed to 33.

In its latest bulletin, the OCD said these casualties are from 13 regions — Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

At least 18 of the deaths have already been confirmed — eight from the Zamboanga Peninsula; seven from Eastern Visayas; two from Northern Mindanao, and one from Davao Region.



The remaining 15 are still undergoing validation — six from Northern Mindanao; five from Bicol; three from Zamboanga Peninsula, and one from Soccsksargen.

The number of injured and missing persons are 12 and seven, respectively. Families affected are placed at 412, 339 which is equivalent to 1,678,440 individuals. Displaced families are estimated at 65,311 or around 266,349 persons.

About 1,672 houses were damaged while the amount of damage to infrastructure and agriculture is placed at PhP206.9 million and PhP414.3 million, respectively.
