Bohol prelate calls on faithful to join hands in protecting ‘God’s creation’

“Together, we stand united and pray for total development” and work in “conserving and protecting the integrity of God’s creation”

Bishop Alberto Uy of Tagbilaran called on the Catholic faithful to join hands with other Christian groups in pursuing the protection of “God’s creation.”

The prelate made the call during the launch this week of the “Week of Prayer for Christian Unity” that aims to unite Christians in working in the service of the Lord.

“Through the spirit of cooperation, humility and Christian service, we pray and serve the people of any color, creed and status as what Jesus did in His ministry,” read a statement released by various Christian groups as the country starts the celebration on January 18 until the 25th.

“Together, we stand united and pray for total development,” said the group, adding that everyone should work in “conserving and protecting the integrity of God’s creation.”

The theme of this year’s observance is “Do Good, Seek Justice.”

In a report on Radio Veritas 846, Bishop Uy stressed the importance of unity in overcoming all challenges.

Among those who joined the launch of the celebration in the province of Bohol were representatives of the United Church of Christ Philippines, the Iglesia Filipina Indipendiente, the United Methodist Church, the Philippine Council for Evangelical Churches, the Jesus Is Lord Movement, and the National Council of Churches in the Philippines.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is an international Christian ecumenical observance kept annually around Pentecost in the Southern Hemisphere and between January 18 and 25 in the Northern Hemisphere.

With roots going back over 100 years, the dedicated octave of prayers has been jointly commissioned and prepared since 1966, after the Second Vatican Council, by the Roman Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches.
