Interfaith movement for good governance launched in Pangasinan

Dubbed “Simbayanihan,” it will connect organizations from the various sectors at the grassroots level to national and local government agencies

An interfaith movement that aims to ensure active participation and engagement of the people in local governance was launched in the province of Pangasinan on Monday, September 5.

“We need good governance, principled politics, and principled leadership. We will engage communities and those from other faith(s),” said Father Antonio Labiao, executive secretary of Caritas Philippines.

In a press briefing, the priest said the movement aims to build partnerships that will ensure “active collective participation” of the community.

Dubbed “Simbayanihan,” it will connect organizations from the various sectors at the grassroots level to national and local government agencies.

Father Rez Arjona, the group’s technical working group head, said the movement will abide by principled cooperation in working with the government.

“We have not totally given up on politics as it is not altogether bad but our eyes are also open,” he said.

The launching was attended by representatives of other faiths and various civil society groups. – from a PNA report
