Religious of the Virgin Mary elects new superior general

Mother Maria Rosabella Gallo has been elected as superior general of the all-Filipino congregation of Catholic nuns

The Religious of the Virgin Mary, the oldest and largest Filipino Catholic religious congregation, elected Mother Maria Rosabella Gallo as its new superior general.

Mother Gallo’s election was announced on Monday, June 6, as the congregation held its 21st General Chapter at Betania Retreat House in Quezon City.

The nun Gallo succeeded Mother Maria Corazon Agda who served the post for six years.

Prior to her new post, Mother Gallo served as the congregation’s secretary general since 2016. She also served as president of St. Mary’s College in Quezon City.

The country’s first all-Filipino religious congregation for women was founded in 1684 by the Venerable Mother Ignacia del Espiritu Santo.

The Religious of the Virgin Mary or RVM sisters are involved in educational and social ministries and are also present in Italy, Taiwan, Pakistan, the United States, Canada, Ghana, and Indonesia.
