Pope Francis names Cardinal Tagle member of Congregation for Divine Worship

Cardinal Tagle will now be part of the office that deals with the promotion and regulation of the Liturgy and of the sacraments

Pope Francis appointed Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, as member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

In a Bulletin released on Wednesday, June 1, the Vatican announced that the Filipino cardinal will now be part of the office that deals with the promotion and regulation of the Liturgy and of the sacraments.

The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments is the congregation of the Roman Curia that handles most affairs relating to liturgical practices of the Latin Church as distinct from the Eastern Catholic Churches and some technical matters relating to the sacraments.

The congregation is headed by cardinal-elect Arthur Roche.

Meanwhile, Cardinal Tagle expressed hope that Filipinos will be known all over the world for their faith.

“I hope that the Filipinos everywhere will be known as someone who treasures the gift of faith, you are someone who treasures the gift of the church, let that be the mark of every Filipino Christian,” the cardinal told a gathering of Filipinos at St Patrick’s Cathedral in New York on Wednesday.

Cardinal Tagle led the closing ceremony of the celebration in the United States of the quincentennial of the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines.
