Caritas Philippines extends solidarity with Muslims on Eid’l Fitr

“In good times or in bad, we have journeyed together to serve both our Christian and Muslim brothers and sisters”

The social action arm of the Catholic Church in the Philippines has expressed solidarity with Filipino Muslims during the observance of Eid’l Fitr to mark the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

“In good times or in bad, we have journeyed together to serve both our Christian and Muslim brothers and sisters,” said a Caritas Philippines in a statement quoted by Radio Veritas 846.

The organization was referring to the attacks in Zamboanga and Marawi in the southern Philippines in recent years.

“The Zamboanga siege gave us the opportunity to work together for peace,” said the organization. “The Marawi Siege enlightened us more to join hands to empower especially the young and the vulnerable.”

Aside from peace initiatives, Carias also work with Muslim organizations and communities in taking care of the environment, such as in the campaign to oppose mining in the provinces of South Cotabato and Davao Oriental.

“Together, we are stronger. Our voices are heard and considered. Together we become better,” said Caritas Philippines
