More Filipinos, especially those living in the cities, are celebrating the Chinese New Year.

This year, the Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, falls on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

Chinese influence in the country dates back to the 10th century, many years before the colonization of the islands by Spain.

Through trade, China became a major influence to Filipinos and their culture, including food and even belief systems. The Chinese way of family structure also heavily influenced traditional Filipino family structure. (Photos by Jire Carreon)
