Diocese of Parañaque sets canonical coronation of Mary’s image on May 24

The Vatican recently granted the request for the pontifical coronation of the 100-year old image

The Diocese of the Parañaque announced that the canonical coronation of the image of Mary, Help of Christians, enshrined at the national shrine will be held on May 24.

The ceremony will coincide with the feast of the Marian title.

The Vatican recently granted the request for the pontifical coronation of the 100-year old image.

The statue was brought to the country by Archbishop Guglielmo Piani, former apostolic delegate to the Philippines. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Archbishop Piani’s arrival in the country.

The image of Mary, Help of Christians, will be the second canonically crowned image in the diocese, and the first since its establishment in 2002.

The first to be crowned was the 400-year-old image of the Nuestra Señora del Buen Suceso, which is venerated at Saint Andrew’s Cathedral, on Sept. 8, 2000.
