Most Filipinos said their quality of life got worse in the past 12 months compared to the previous year.
Result of a survey done by pollster Social Weather Stations shows that 57 percent of Filipino adults believe that their quality of life got worse.
The survey result released on Tuesday, October 26, shows that only 13 percent of Filipino adults believe they got better off compared to last year.
The survey was conducted from September 12 to 16 using face-to-face interviews.
“Comparing your quality of life these days to how it was 12 months ago, would you say that your quality of life is better now than before, same as before, or worse now than before?” the survey asked 1,200 Filipinos nationwide aged 18 and above.
The Third Quarter 2021 Social Weather Survey also found 29 percent of the respondents said their quality of life stayed the same.
A report on the Philippine Daily Inquirer on October 26 said the pandemic shed US$43 billion from the Philippine economy last year—the eighth-highest economic toll among 15 Asian economies.
The report, quoting the Japan Center for Economic Research, said tourism- and services-dependent region suffered from lockdowns to contain the deadly coronavirus.
The Singapore-based DBS Bank also expects the Philippines, alongside India and Indonesia, to be the region’s laggards in restoring their respective populations’ lost incomes due to the pandemic.
