Puerto Princesa bishop calls on people to get vaccinated against COVID-19

Bishop Socrates Mesiona urged the faithful to get vaccinated to hasten the return to normal life

Bishop Socrates Mesiona of Puerto Princesa in Palawan urged the faithful this week to get vaccinated against the coronavirus disease.

“I am urging those who are not yet vaccinated to get vaccinated so that we will soon get back to our normal lives,” he said over Church-run Veritas 846.

“Let us have faith in God and also believe in science and the people behind it because they are being used by God to answer our prayers,” said the bishop.

The prelate said that even before the vaccines against COVID-19 came out, the vicariate has been praying for remedy for the disease.

The city of Puerto Princesa has been ramping its vaccination program since July, focusing on reaching remote villages.

Last week, the local government appealed to health authorities to implement stricter quarantine restrictions due to the rising cases of COVID-19 in the city.

Media reports said that the utilization status of hospitals in the city are already up to 85 percent while hotel quarantine facilities are also filling up.

Officials said that while Puerto Princesa has a population of 300,000, only 52,352 are fully vaccinated and 64,475 had their first jabs.
