The Dumagat Remontado indigenous people in the mountains of Daraitan, Rizal province, east of the Philippine capital, have been providing produce to “community pantries” in Metro Manila.
The sharing of resources show how indigenous peoples offer their solidarity with the urban poor, especially during difficult times like the pandemic.
Greenpeace Philippines contracted photojournalist Basilio Sepe to follow the route of the produce from harvest to distribution, telling stories of people’s ongoing plight.
Greenpeace Philippines and the group PAKISAMA looked into what they described as a “response to shared struggles of broken food systems and lack of government support.”
