Philippine bishops to reconsecrate nation to Blessed Virgin Mary

The consecration reaffirms the Philippine bishops’ previous consecrations of the country to the Blessed Mother

Philippine Catholic bishops will reconsecrate the nation to the care of the Immaculate Heart of Mary on June 12 this year.

Monsignor Bernardo Pantin, secretary general of the bishops’ conference, said the event will fall on Independence Day and will be an “added relevance” to the consecration.

The consecration reaffirms the Philippine bishops’ previous consecrations of the country to the Blessed Mother.

In January 2014, the country’s bishops approved that the consecration to Mary’s Immaculate Heart is renewed every year on her feast day until this year when the Philippines marks the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christianity.

Like the recent consecration to St. Joseph, the national consecration will be led by Archbishop Romulo Valles, president of the bishops’ conference, from the Davao Cathedral.

Masses in honor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary will also be held in different cathedrals and churches led by the National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Valenzuela City.

Monsignor Pantin said that after the post communion prayer, a diocesan or parish consecration could also be made especially for those that could not follow the national consecration.
