Pampanga archbishop recovers from COVID-19

Archbishop Florentino Lavarias of San Fernando will continue his mandatory quarantine in his residence

After testing positive for the new coronavirus disease last month, Archbishop Florentino Lavarias of San Fernando has recovered and was discharged from the hospital.

The archbishop, who is turning 64 on March 14, was admitted to a hospital in the province of Pampanga on February 27 after showing symptoms of COVID-19.

His positive result was confirmed the following day after a swab test.

After his discharge from the hospital, Archbishop Lavarias will continue his mandatory quarantine in his residence.

In a statement, the prelate thanked the hospital workers who took care of him and those who prayed for his recovery.

“May God share with you all the graces and blessings that He continues to shower upon me at this very moment,” he said.

Archbishop Lavarias became the ninth Filipino prelate to be infected with the virus.

On February 28, Archbishop Jose Palma and retired Auxiliary Bishop Antonio Rañola of Cebu were also discharged from the hospital after recovering from COVID-19.
