New Catholic bishop of Jolo installed

Bishop Charlie Inzon was installed as the sixth apostolic vicar of the Apostolic Vicariate of Jolo in the southern Philippines on Thursday, July 16.

The ceremony took place during Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Jolo town.

Cardinal Orlando Quevedo, archbishop emeritus of Cotabato, and his successor, Archbishop Angelito Lampon, installed the new prelate.

“I rejoice in the mercy of God and trust in his assurance of strength and consolation as I take up this ministry of service in the Church in the Vicariate of Jolo,” said Bishop Inzon.

Bishop Inzon, a member of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate congregation, succeeded Archbishop Lampon, who was transferred to the Archdiocese of Cotabato in 2018.

Originally scheduled on May 28, a week after his ordination, the prelate’s installation was delayed due to quarantine measures amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Attendance during the ceremony was limited to a few priests and some faithful due to the still existing quarantine measures.

Prior to his election as Jolo bishop by Pope Francis, Bishop Inzon was Philippine provincial of the OMI.

Born in Putiao town in Sorsogon province on Nov. 24, 1965, Bishop Inzon joined the Oblates in 1982 and was ordained priest on April 24, 1993.
