Home Diocesan Reports Cubao bishop, priests undergo COVID-19 tests

Cubao bishop, priests undergo COVID-19 tests

Members of the clergy of the Diocese of Cubao in the Philippine capital have undergone tests for the new coronavirus disease on July 6 as part of preparations for the resumption of public celebrations of religious activities.

Bishop Honesto Ongtioco of Cubao said the tests were conducted to ensure the safety of the clergy and the people they serve.

“This is to ensure that we are fit to serve our people and also for their safety and health,” said the prelate.

“All results of our priests and staff in my residence and in the chancery are negative,” added Bishop Ongtioco.

The government has earlier announced that churches under “general community quarantine” can hold religious services up to 10 percent capacity of the venue starting July 10.

Bishop Ongtioco said he is waiting for clearance from city hall for the resumption of Masses following the government protocol.

“Hopefully, by the weekend July 11, Saturday, we can resume,” he said.

The diocese suspended public celebrations of the Holy Mass in March after the government imposed and “enhanced community quarantine” due to the coronavirus pandemic.
