Archbishop Jesus Dosado, retired prelate of the Archdiocese of Ozamiz, died Tuesday, June 23, a few weeks after celebrating his 54th anniversary as a priest.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Archbishop Emeritus Jesus Dosado on June 23, 2020 at 6:15 this evening,” read a message from Archbishop Martín S. Jumoad of Ozamiz.
“Please pray for his eternal repose,” added the prelate.
Ordained a priest for the Congregation of the Mission on May 28, 1966, Archbishop Dosado was named auxiliary bishop of Cebu in 1977.
In 1979, Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop of Cagayan de Oro.
In 1981, he was transferred to the then Diocese of Ozamiz, which was elevated to an archdiocese two years later with Archbishop Dosado as its first archbishop.
The prelate was archbishop emeritus of Ozamiz at the time of his death, having retired on Oct. 4, 2016.
He was succeeded by Archbishop Jumoad who used to be bishop of the Prelature of Isabela in Basilan.
The Archdiocese of Ozamiz includes the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the dioceses of Dipolog, Pagadian, Iligan, and the prelature of St. Mary in Marawi.
Archbishop Dosado served as vice chairman of the Episcopal Commission on Liturgy of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.
