THE social action arm of the Archdiocese of Manila is getting ready for the next phase of its program to help those most affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Father Anton Pascual, head of Caritas Manila, said the Church is preparing for the “rehabilitation stage” to help workers through micro-finance and cooperative programs.
“Basically, we are still at the relief stage but we are trying to move to rehabilitation also,” said the priest.
Father Pascual noted the need to also support students who have no access to mobile and online gadgets that are needed for the reopening of classes in August.
The country’s Education department announced earlier its plan to use online and modular learning systems in schools until a vaccine is available and face-to-face classes can resume.
Only 19 percent of students across the country have access to the internet, government data showed.
Father Pascual called on the faithful to continue supporting the campaigns of Caritas Manila for communities most affected by the coronavirus lockdown.
In recent weeks, Caritas Manila was able to distribute financial and material emergency assistance to over four million people in 25 dioceses across the country.
