Diocese of San Carlos extends aid to ‘recovered’ drug users

THE Diocese of San Carlos distributed aid to at least 90 people who “graduated” from its drug rehabilitation program on June 3.

Father Dionisio Nacario, head of the social action ministry, said the “recovered” drug dependents were also affected by the impact of the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“The diocese has extended some emergency relief packs while we monitor and assist them to reintegrate into the community after finishing the rehabilitation program,” said the priest.

Father Nacario assured the recovered drug users that the church “will always be here to take care” and “that we are always behind their backs.”

More than 400 individuals have benefited from the program that started on Nov. 14, 2016. At least 243 people have been declared rehabilitated as of today.

The diocese was able to provide jobs and livelihood to at least 120 rehabilitated drug abusers who underwent the program.
