The Diocese of Kalibo is exploring the possibility of a “drive-thru communion” during the quarantine period for the coronavirus pandemic.
Father Jose Tudd Belandres said the idea was raised during a meeting with Bishop Jose Corazon Tala-oc on Saturday, May 30.
“We are still studying if the ‘drive-thru communion’ can be applied in the diocese,” said the priest, adding that it is being done in other areas.
Several churches abroad have been distributing communion with congregants driving up and the priest outside to hand-out communion packets.
The Diocese of Kalibo is implementing new policies as it goes under the more relaxed “modified general community quarantine.”
“We are also eyeing to increase regular schedule of Masses, especially every Sunday to accommodate more churchgoers,” said Father Belandres.
Bishop Tala-oc also came up with new guidelines for the “new normal” for weddings, baptisms, confessions, burials, and communion for the sick in parishes.
