The Archdiocesan Social Action Center of Capiz in the central Philippines called for an investigation into a new COVID-19 case in the province.
The center said it is “disturbed” by reports that a medical front-liner has been infected by the disease despite having no recent history of travel and contact with a known case.
“While we are saddened by the latest development, a lot of questions are also hovering in our minds,” read a statement from the center.
“Like many of us, we could not afford to be put in a trap or even lose another fellow again. What is not clear to us is the mode of transmission,” it added.
The patient, a 32-year old male, is the sixth COVID-19 case in the province of Capiz, which has been free of the disease for a month already.
In the spirit of public service, we humbly demand for a reliable investigation and honest explanation from our respected health authority,” read the statement from the social action center.
The Department of Health-Center for Health Development in Western Visayas region confirmed on May 20 that a health worker from Roxas City was tested positive for COVID-19 bringing to six the total number of infections in the province.
Capiz province was placed under “general community quarantine” on May 1.
