Balanga bishop prohibits celebration of Mass in private homes

The bishop of the Diocese of Balanga in the northern Philippine province of Bataan has called on priests not to celebrate Mass in private homes.

“There should never be Holy Mass in any private homes, likewise no Holy Mass live streaming in any home,” said Bishop Ruperto Santos.

In a letter to members of the clergy, the prelate said the live streaming of Masses should only be done in the parish church or in any chapel inside the parish church.

Bishop Santos said he issued the directive so as not to create “division and confusion” among the faithful.

“Having private Holy Mass even live streaming might create misrepresentation that only spacious or beautiful houses or known family can be allowed or hold private Masses,” he said.

“The right and proper place of the Holy Mass is the church,” he added.

The province of Bataan remains under the “enhanced community quarantine,” which was imposed by the government to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus disease.
